Walking Cricket

at Knaresborough Cricket Club

Do you ever look back on your younger sporting days, and wish you could re-live some of those experiences?
Do you miss being part of a group playing a game you love and enjoy discussing?
Do you just want to get a bit of exercise, out in the fresh air in the company of some like-minded people?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes then Walking Cricket could be just the thing for you!

Walking Cricket was developed in Yorkshire in 2019, as a sport for all genders, semi-retired and older, where the emphasis is on enjoyment and meeting people. It replicates the game of cricket, but with a lighter, softer ball, and light plastic bats on a smaller wicket and with one special condition – No Running! Everything is walked, including the runs and fielding. No pads and gloves are needed and all necessary equipment is provided.

Walking Cricket is ideal for people who are older, or less physically able, but who still want to enjoy the thrill of the game. The game can be played with teams or just informally as a group. Everyone playing gets to bat, bowl and field and it’s a great form of exercise.

Sessions last for up to two hours, with an hour to 90 minutes playing followed by tea or coffee, biscuits and socialising.

At Knaresborough Cricket Club we’re continuing to run fortnightly sessions in May, going through to the end of the usual cricket season in September. Anyone who would like to have a go at Walking Cricket is welcome – you don’t need to be an existing member of the Club.
