Knaresborough 3rd XI vs Pool 3XI
Sunday 13/06/2016. A report by Jordan Tear (c)
With Joe Lumb still happening and Duke of Edinburgh taking 2 key players, selection was tough once again. Tom Baines had injured his back on the Saturday, and so rightly dropped out; it must be noted that he still came to support, excellent badgering from this legend. Ben Ward was the saviour at 11:30pm on Saturday night, giving us 11 players again. The team saw a few changes, H Dawson came in, a very exciting selection and one which turned out to be as brilliant as expected. O Wilson also made the side, bringing some first class banter and some power hitting at the end if needed.
I finally won a toss (Pool lost it) and I chose to bowl. J Tear and D Howard opened the bowling and, as a bowling partnership, had Pool at 17 for 3 after 13 overs, a frustrating spell from both of us, let’s just say. D Weatherill and J Proctor then took over and continued the great start; they bowled until drinks; at this point Pool were 32-5. The game already looked well and truly ours, but we still needed to play a second half like our first. Our tightness dropped a little in the second half, nonetheless, the leg spin bowling partnership in T Wilson and H Dawson worked brilliantly, bringing us a further 4 wickets. B Brennan and T Blackburn then finished our bowling innings well; B Brennan taking the final wicket and bringing us our 5th and maximum amount of bowling points. I must say our energy and enthusiasm in the field backed our brilliant bowling extremely well; it was a massive pleasure to captain a group of such great cricketers with excellent attitudes.
Chasing 132 in 40 overs after a bit of rain at tea was a reasonable ask; I knew it was going to take a long time to get the runs, due to the way the wicket had played previously and on Saturday. J Tear and H Dawson opened the batting very well, playing the good ball and hitting the bad ball. B Brennan made a brilliant 14 at the number 3 spot before being bowled and T Wilson joined J Tear at the crease. At drinks we were 71-2, on top of the run rate and in control. Pool were bowling relatively good areas, and made us work hard for the runs. We knocked the runs off in the 32nd over, T Wilson finishing on 34* from 71 balls and J Tear 74* from 78 balls. It must be noted that we still had plenty of batting to come. 5 batting points for knocking off their score and 10 points for the win. Another 20 point Sunday!
Special mentions to O Wilson and B Ward for their great fielding and E May was once again brilliant behind the stumps.
Another great win for us guys, our attitude is spot on and I couldn’t ask for more from a brilliant group of people. Onto next week!
