Horsforth CC 3rds Vs Knaresborough CC 3rds – Match Report – 22nd June
The 3rds made the trip to a Horsforth side who had beaten us the week before in the Chappell Cup and who were in a fine run of form. The 3rds found themselves light in numbers in the week and a youthful side travelled. After deciding to field, ‘Boro’ made a strong start with Tom Egerton dismissing the opener and Tom Wilson then taking the next caught behind. The opposition No.3 then pushed up the tempo and Horsforth cranked up the run rate, but Knaresborough gave a strong response with further wickets for Wilson, Ward and Baines in quick concession. A great spell of 10 runs from 4 overs by Dan Howard, who at 13 was the youngest player in the side, nearly restricted Horsforth to 3 batting points but some big hitting at by the last wicket pair led to a strong but chaseable 205-9, giving the team valuable bowling points. The top batting performance was a noteworthy 82 from Harrison McPhee.
The Knaresborough batting line-up was relatively light with absences of key batsmen, so Knaresborough had to make do. Leeds United prodigy Matt Keogh made his 3rd team debut and acquitted himself well both in the field and with the bat. ‘Boro’ started the innings relatively slowly and some strong bowling and fielding pressure kept their run rate down. Wickets fell, but the 50 came up for a spirited and confident performance from James Keane who went on to achieve a grand total of 58. After some strong batting at the death from some of the younger members of the side (Wilson and Tear), Knaresborough finished short of the target but not all out so restricting the oppositions bowling points. The overall performance was encouraging and the Captain was pleased by his sides spirited display and particularly with the young players who stepped up the mark and performed under pressure. Horsforth are a strong side and we will not play many better teams this season. The game was played in a good spirit and was well umpired.
The next 3rds game sees them host Adel on the 13th Of July
