Our Under 11 pairs side were disappointed to leave Whixley empty handed on Monday night.
Captain Ben Ward lost the toss and Knaresborough were invited to bat in blustery conditions. Charlie Taylor opened the innings with Dan Wetherill and both coped well against the hostile opening attack.
Josh Wheeler and Travis Padgett worked hard to turn the game Knaresborough’s way, yet Whixley were on top form.Lewis Francis and Thomas Carrick played some lovely shots and ran well between the wickets in an attempt to accumulate a competitive total.
Momentum was building. Enter the cavalry. Seasoned campaigner Ben Ward – buoyed by his heroics last week, and the ever dependable Oliver Tomalin. Together they put Whixley’s fatigued attack to the sword.
Knaresborough had rallied to a respectable 199 having lost a slightly disappointing 9 wickets. 7 biscuits at half time for Thomas was the mark of determination required by Knaresborough to be victorious. Lewis and Josh took the new ball and bowled accurately. Josh struck with a fantastic caught and bowled to warm his hands and those of the faithful supporters.
Excellent fielding by all and notably behind the stumps by Travis, enabled Knaresborough to remain in contention.Charlie was accurate and bowled well in tandem with Ben Ward. A final roll of the dice with the introduction of Oliver proved in vain – there was too much for even him to do.
Whixley closed their innings on 222 for the loss of only 5 wickets (2 for Ben, and 1 each for Dan, Josh and Oliver). Well played boys in difficult conditions – you kept encouraging each other and played well as a team.
